BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Welker boosted the Hawkeyes to a 3-1 series victory on the road against Big Ten Champion Illinois as he batted .600 (9-for-15) on the weekend with four runs batted in and three runs scored to earn Player of the Week honors. The senior catcher produced a slugging percentage of .867 as Iowa garnered the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament. Welker recorded three multi-hit games and was a home run short of the cycle in the series finale when he had three RBI in the 7-1 triumph. He is the second Hawkeye to be honored this season along with Andy Cox (March 15).

BIG TEN PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Mitch Pruemer, Purdue
SR, RHP, Dieterich, Ill./Teutopolis
Pruemer struck out a career-high nine batters and allowed no earned runs in a complete-game victory over Indiana to earn Pitcher of the Week laurels. The senior righthander allowed only five hits and one walk in seven innings of work, as he recorded his sixth complete game this season. Pruemer is the first Purdue hurler to collect the weekly pitching award in 2005.
