Davis notched falls in all three of his bouts as Penn State opened the season by hosting and winning the second annual Pennsylvania State Dual Championships. Davis was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler and won the Most Falls in Least Time Award with three in 13:35. Davis' most important pin came in No.12 Penn State's 18-17 win over No. 8 Lehigh. With Penn State trailing 17-9, Davis pinned Lehigh's Paul Weibel in 3:20 to pull PSU to within two, 17-15.  The Nittany Lions would go on to defeat the eight-ranked team and win the tournament crown.

Ryan Lang, Northwestern

Lang had a very successful opening weekend of competition at the Michigan State Open. After receiving a first round bye, he rattled off four straight wins to take the 141-pound title. Lang outscored his opponents in the final two rounds 26-10, and recorded pins in his first two matches. In the title bout, Lang beat Michigan State's Nick Simmons, who is ranked No. 5 nationally, 6-5. For his efforts on the weekend, Lang was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Michigan State Open.
